Job Title: Environmental Policy Specialist
About the Role
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is seeking an experienced professional to join our team as Assistant Director, Environment Policy and Standards.
This key role will be responsible for formulating, examining and evaluating regulations and policy to make recommendations on key cross-cutting policy issues related to international maritime pollution prevention conventions and their implementation in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
* Research and analyse environmental issues, trends and regulatory responses, both in Australia and internationally to inform the development of Australia's policy and inform international and domestic engagement.
* Lead the development of Australia's position and prepare briefing on key issues for International Maritime Organization (IMO) meetings including Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and Pollution Prevention and Response Sub-Committee (PPR).
* Contribute to the analysis and formulation of policy related to maritime environment protection issues and the preparation of documentation relating to the introduction of new and amending legislation and marine orders.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong background in developing and administering policy, regulation and/or legislation, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will also have experience undertaking research and analysis and preparing briefings on complex issues.
A relevant tertiary qualification, such as environmental or maritime law, international relations, or environmental science, would be highly regarded. Additionally, understanding of international conventions, legislation and/or policies, particularly for, but not limited to, environment protection, is essential.
