School of Civil Engineering – Faculty of EAIT Full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months Base salary will be in the range $80,448.78 - $107,104.10 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A) Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Based at our St Lucia Campus - Brisbane About This Opportunity We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer to play a key role in an exciting, externally funded research initiative focused on the fire safety of batteries. This project, supported by the NHRA, explores critical challenges at the intersection of battery technology and fire safety engineering. Key responsibilities will include: Research: Lead activities in fire safety engineering of batteries, with a focus on designing and manufacturing test objects such as representative BESS enclosures and managing a comprehensive fire testing program. Responsibilities include conducting lab work, operating and maintaining research equipment, and analysing experimental data. The role also involves producing high-quality research outputs, contributing to funding applications, developing a coherent research program, and supporting knowledge transfer and commercialisation efforts. Collaboration with colleagues, assistance with safety procedures, and contributing to the broader teaching and research efforts of the fire safety engineering group at the University of Queensland are also expected. Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the effective supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, demonstrating strong leadership and mentoring skills. This includes providing constructive feedback, coaching, and supporting professional growth. Where appropriate, the role also involves managing research support staff in line with University policies and addressing conflicts or grievances promptly and professionally. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate behaviours aligned with UQ values, showing self-leadership through collaboration and active engagement in unit priorities. They will support colleagues and unit operations as needed, particularly during absences and contribute to internal service roles, decision-making processes, and relevant committees. Additionally, the role involves participating in external service activities and beginning to build partnerships with industry, government, professional bodies, and the broader community. About You Completion or near completion of a PhD in the area of Fire Safety Engineering. An emerging profile in research - Fire Safety Engineering. Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences. Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding. Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, mandatory immunisations, etc. Work Rights?
