OverviewQueensland Fire Department is seeking a candidate for the Predictions unit within the Intelligence & Predictions work area.
The role supports multi-hazard intelligence capabilities across Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PPRR) and contributes to scientifically derived bushfire intelligence and local area knowledge.
Reporting to the Manager, you will contribute to planning, development, maintenance and continuous improvement of decision support capabilities and provide data and systems support to regionally focused predictive services.Location: Kedron Park

• Salary: $118,****** - $126,****** per annumCurrent Queensland Fire Department employees and volunteers must apply via their internal careers site.About UsThe Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities.
The QFD includes Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) and related functions that support community safety outcomes and our large volunteer membership across the state.
The QFD is focused on reframing its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities through the Path to Treaty and building cultural capability.Purpose of the roleThe Predictions unit is responsible for decision support capabilities as an enabler to a multi-hazard intelligence function underpinned by networked regional and state capabilities across PPRR.
The team generates scientifically derived bushfire intelligence and collaborates with the scientific community, the Bureau of Meteorology, GIS, interstate emergency services and land management agencies to provide accurate and enabling intelligence for QFD.
You will contribute to planning, development, maintenance and continuous improvement strategies of decision support capabilities and collaborate with other departments to deliver intelligence outputs and products for operational situational awareness.Key requirementsHighly Desirable RequirementsKnowledge and/or experience using a GIS platform and decision support intelligence tools.Have attained or be willing to undertake nationally recognised training within the predictive services capability (e.g., Fire Behaviour Analyst - FBAN).
Qualifications in relevant disciplines, including tertiary qualifications, knowledge of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements and incident management systems (e.g., Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System).
Special RequirementsThe incumbent may participate in an on-call roster, which may require work outside normal hours (e.g., night shifts), including weekends.
Deployment intrastate or interstate may be required.Your key accountabilitiesResponsibilitiesContribute to the QFD multi-hazard intelligence function by determining requirements, collecting data, processing, analysing and disseminating outputs across all phases of disaster management and operations.Manage development, implementation, overview and evaluation of large data sets integral to predictive services systems and computer simulations for bushfire hazard.Develop and implement networks, governance, policy and doctrine to enhance intelligence-based capabilities and information sharing.Prepare and review scripts, GIS data and workflows to maintain high-quality systems for planning requirements.Assist with timely, well-researched briefing papers, submissions and reports in accordance with organisational requirements.Contribute to risk communication and education strategies to liaise between QFD regions, other emergency services, groups and the community.Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to meet customer requirements and business objectives.Participate in a dynamic work environment, supporting teamwork and performance and development activities.How to ApplyPlease submit: a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) outlining your experience and motivation for applying, and your current resume (maximum 3 pages recommended).
