We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to collaborate with multiple teams and roles across the organization, including product managers and engineering teams, to deliver reliable, scalable, and user-friendly experiences for Canonical products.
As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility is to support your team members: ensuring their growth as web engineers, meaningful work, and a positive experience at Canonical. You will provide technical leadership, challenge, and growth opportunities, influence culture, and work on strategy and execution.
Location: This role is remote within the EMEA region.
The role entails:
Demonstrate sound engineering principles by contributing to your team's goals.
Estimate work, set goals, and achieve them.
Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Web technologies or Flutter.
Debug and resolve user issues.
Participate in engineering reviews for code and architecture.
Collaborate on technical specifications with community and colleagues.
Contribute to high-quality technical documentation.
Seek improvements in engineering and operational practices.
Deploy and operate services developed by your team.
Support your product through technical advocacy.
What we are looking for in you:
Passion and knowledge in web and software development.

Excellent academic background from high school and university, or an alternative compelling story.
Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a strong alternative narrative.
Proven drive and a history of exceeding expectations.

Professional in interactions with colleagues, partners, and community.
Experience designing and developing high-quality web technologies.
Experience with Typescript, React, or Flutter, and a passion for these technologies.
Attention to accessibility and performance.
Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
Willingness to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each.
Nice-to-have skills:
Experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Experience in building and leading talented teams.
Knowledge of REST API design, development, and governance.
Experience in performance engineering and security.
