Process Technician - Control Room Operators
Lynas Rare Earths has an opportunity for experienced and formally qualified Control Room Operators to join our team at the Kalgoorlie Rare Earth Processing Facility (REPF).
The Kalgoorlie REPF is a key strategic platform for critical mineral production, blending pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical process in an Australian first, mineral processing plant.
The Opportunity
Lynas are seeking experienced degree or diploma-qualified Process Technicians with extensive Control Room Operating experience to join us on our journey and expand their rare earths-processing knowledge.
This role, which reports to the Processing Shift Supervisor, will be responsible for the day to day running of the processing plant, including taking ownership of operational areas and operating the control room.
Our REPF has a complex rare earth extraction process and plant configuration. To assist in the day-to-day management and ensure the plant is running optimally, the Production team utilizes the SCADA control system.
While the main focus will be within Control Room Operations, the successful applicant will be expected to complete task rotation and time in field as an operator within the processing plant.
These other areas of responsibility will include kiln operation, leaching, reagent handling, water treatment, filtration, and waste gas. This role will also include some management of the various processing bulk materials used throughout the processing plant.
This role is offered on a Kalgoorlie-Goldfields residential basis only, working an even time 7/7 rotating roster of day and night shifts, 12 hour shifts.
This is a sterling opportunity to work in a brand-new plant, expanding on the Australian mining industry's mineral processing collective knowledge, and adding to the rare earths' commodity's prosperous future.
This role would potentially be well suited to a graduate with processing experience, or an experienced process technician who has already undertaken their formal qualifications with either a degree or diploma within the field.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
* The safe day-to-day operation of the processing plant including:
* Control Room operation
* Ensuring correct record keeping, log sheets of plant parameters or events, inclusion in handovers, reporting issues or maintenance request, pre starts
* Support remaining project and commissioning activities
* Safe Isolation and Permitting processes
* Contributing to the development of safe working procedures
* Ensure a safe working environment is maintained
* Identification and control of hazards and housekeeping
* Task rotation throughout the REPF to all other standard operational duties, gaining in field experience to gain insight into the intricate knowledge required for effective CRO duties.
Required Skills and Experience
* Extensive experience in a processing plant environment
* Previous experience in operating mobile equipment in a heavy industrial environment
* Control room operational experience essential, SCADA system highly regarded
* Isolation, and/or Permit to Work operational experience
* Unwavering approach to safety

The machinery our technicians typically utilize include:
* Forklifts (2 to 42 Tonne)
* Overhead Gantry Crane
* Excavator
* Elevated Work Platform
It would be an expectation of this role that all process technicians have qualifications and the associated experience to operate these pieces of machinery, or the ability to obtain the relative Australian qualifications or licensing to work towards gaining this experience.
Candidate Requirements
* A formal Degree or Diploma in any of the following disciplines –
o Chemical Engineering
o Process Engineering
o Metallurgy
o Or other related process-control qualification.
* Construction Industry Induction (White Card)
* Current High Risk Work License (WA) LF - Fork Lift
* Full Australian Working Rights
* The willingness to reside within the Goldfields region for our residential site.
