About Strait Link
Strait Link has a proud history as a vital link in the supply chain between Tasmania and the Australian mainland. As an end-to-end logistics provider, our people — on our vessels, at ports, in our depots and warehouses, and in our trucks and offices — play a critical role connecting Tasmanian businesses and communities.
Through daily sea freight services between Port of Melbourne in Victoria and Port of Burnie in Tasmania, our world-class ships connect Tasmania with customers, suppliers, and markets across Australia and, in turn, the world.
About the Role
This is more than a standard Fitter / Welder role, it's a chance to grow your trade with Strait Link. Based in our Burnie workshop, you'll work across a wide mix of transport and shipping equipment, with no two days the same.
You'll get exposure to varied fabrication and maintenance work, be encouraged to build new skills, and have the opportunity to step up into broader responsibility over time. If you're someone who likes staying hands-on while developing your capability and career, this role gives you the room to do both.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Carrying out repairs and maintenance on transport and shipping equipment
* Welding and fabrication work (GMAW / MIG, oxy-acetylene)
* Reading and interpreting technical drawings
* Completing job paperwork, timesheets and worksheets accurately
* Reporting faults, damage and safety issues
* Maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised workshop
* Participating in toolbox talks, OH&S meetings and training
* Supporting other workshop duties (forklift operation, wash bay, inspections) where required
About You
* Trade background as a Fitter / Welder (TAFE or equivalent preferred)
* Strong welding and fabrication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Solid understanding of workshop safety and OH&S requirements
* Good communication skills and a strong service mindset
* Forklift licence and driver's licence (preferred, not essential)
* Willingness to learn, mentor others, and pitch in where needed
If you're a capable Fitter / Welder who values teamwork, safety and quality workmanship, we'd like to hear from you.
