Contract Opportunity until June 2026 – Project Accountant (Disaster Recovery Works)

Our client, a forward-thinking Council based on the North Sunshine Coast, is seeking an experienced Project Accountant – Disaster Recovery Works to join their Corporate Services Financial Services branch. This key contract role supports the management and financial oversight of a $90+ million disaster recovery program aligned with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) funding criteria.
What you will do:
* Maintain expert knowledge of QRA grant funding rules and ensure eligible expenditure is accurately tracked and claimed.
* Monitor financial progress of disaster recovery projects and related capital works and operational budgets.
* Collaborate with internal teams—project officers, finance, civil works, fleet—and external consultants and funding agencies.
* Review transactions, job costing, fleet charge-outs, and post journals to optimise funding recovery.
* Prepare monthly financial reports for disaster recovery officers, contract managers, and QRA.
* Support claim preparation and provide financial data for capitalisation and asset componentisation at project close.
* Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
What we're looking for:
* Degree-qualified project accountant.
* Tech One knowledge highly desirable.
* Proven skills in cost accounting, activity-based costing, and applying accounting standards in project environments (ideally in disaster recovery, grant funding, etc).
* Strong analytical abilities and high-level communication skills to liaise confidently with diverse stakeholders.
* Self-motivated with excellent time management and ability to prioritise tasks independently.
