Location: Coffs Harbour or Nambucca HeadsHours per week: 38Start date: 1 July 2026Contract: Fixed‐term until 30 June 2031Travel: Yes, within the Bellingen, Coffs Harbour and Nambucca Heads Local Government Areas. On‐call roster (24/7) with allowances paid according to the SCHADS Award.
Position Overview
Blue Sky Community Services is seeking four full‐time Family Practitioners to join our Families, Young People and Communities team within the Families Together program. This role is funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice under the Family Preservation Program and focuses on preventing child removal and supporting families in crisis.
Responsibilities
* Keep children safe at home with their families, preventing removal, entry into Out of Home Care, and future involvement with the child protection system.
* Work intensively with children and families using strengths‐based, trauma‐informed, and child‐centred practice to build safety, stability, and long‐term resilience.
* Assess and respond to child safety and wellbeing risks, including domestic violence, alcohol and drug use, and emerging family crises.
* Develop, implement, and review family‐led case plans to improve outcomes in parenting capacity, education, health, and overall wellbeing.
* Coordinate and collaborate with DCJ and community partners to deliver integrated, timely, and effective support for families.
* Maintain accurate case documentation and contribute to program outcomes, ensuring compliance with Families Together requirements, performance indicators, and reporting timeframes.
Qualifications
* Relevant tertiary qualification (or progress toward one) in Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline with experience delivering trauma‐informed, family‐centred support to vulnerable children and families.
* First Aid Certificate (or willingness to undertake training).
* Willingness to travel within the local area and work flexibly between 6 am and 8 pm on weekdays.
* Consistent alignment of behaviours, attitudes, and conduct with the organisation's values, culture, and Code of Conduct.
* Strong working knowledge of Family Preservation systems and the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.
* Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
* Ability to use information and communication technology systems, including Microsoft Office, client management systems, and databases.
* Capability and willingness to promote the Families Together program confidently and accurately.
* Friendly, kind, and positive approach with a can‐do attitude.
* Desire to not only meet but consistently exceed expectations.
* Highly developed organisational skills and efficient work practices.
Team Overview
The Families, Young People and Communities team works with children (aged 8 to 24) and their families, supporting parents to strengthen relationships and providing a wide range of individual, group, and community services. The team also partners with other sector services to deliver training across the Mid North Coast.
