Founded in 2022, we are commercialising Aeroperm, a nanocrystalline magnetic material developed at Monash University that enables electric motors and generators to be significantly more efficient, compact and lightweight. Our mission is to reduce global emissions and energy waste by improving the performance of electric machines in transport, renewable energy and industrial applications. In 2025, we are building out a new pilot-scale production facility in Melbourne to scale up our manufacturing capability and support our growing customer base. As part of our engineering team, you will work alongside experienced mechatronics, materials and automation engineers on real-world projects that push the boundaries of sustainable manufacturing and advanced electric motor technology. We are a collaborative and hands-on team that values curiosity, transparency, and impact, and we are proud to be building high-tech jobs and capabilities here in Australia.Position Overview:As an experienced Mechatronics Engineer at Kite Magnetics, you will design, build, innovate, and improve production systems and test infrastructure to support the manufacture and integration of Aeroperm materials and components. You will lead or co-lead design projects, implement process improvements, and take ownership of equipment design, reliability, documentation, and functional safety. This is a hands-on, cross-functional engineering role suited to someone who thrives in an early-stage commercial environment and enjoys both design and execution.Reporting to: Senior Industrial Automation EngineerKey Responsibilities:Design, prototype, and iterate mechanical and electromechanical turn-key systems using CAD and rapid prototyping toolsDevelop and maintain production and test equipment, including commissioning, calibration and continuous improvementDesign fixtures, jigs, tooling and test rigs for material processing and mechanical or thermal testingImplement and support automation systems, including integration of sensors, actuators and PLCsDevelopment and documentation of safety-critical systems and participate in hazard analysis and risk assessmentsCollaborate with materials, process, and automation engineers to define and refine system requirementsTroubleshoot and improve reliability and performance of existing systems, contributing to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) strategiesSupport supplier liaison, manufacturing planning and integration with enterprise systemsParticipate in team design reviews, testing campaigns and manufacturing scale-up planningRequirementsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics or a related Engineering disciplineExperience:3-5 years of relevant industry experience in product or process development (exceptional recent graduates with extensive hands-on project work will be considered)Demonstrated experience in mechanical system design using CAD. e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo (preferred)Proficient in hands-on prototyping, system integration, basic machining, fabrication, and assemblyFamiliarity with industrial automation systems, motion control, sensors, pneumatics, and electromechanical componentsExperience working with or developing equipment in a lab or pilot-scale setting, as well as production settingExperience collaborating in cross-functional Engineering teamsExperience with control systems and PLC programming(Desirable) Familiarity with electric motor working principlesPersonal Attributes:Honest, curious, inclusive, collaborative, transparent, and responsibleReliable, organised, and detail-orientedAdaptable to changing priorities and comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environmentProactive and self-motivated, with a positive attitude and team-first approachBenefitsSalary range: $96,000-$116,000 + SuperannuationMentorship and career development in a high-growth startupWork with cutting-edge technology and contribute to global impactDynamic, supportive and inclusive team environmentApplication Deadline:Friday the 13th of June 2025Commencement Date:Flexible, on or after Tuesday the 1st of July 2025Kite Magnetics is an equal-opportunity and equal-outcome employer.
