The Corporate Legal Branch within the General Counsel Division is part of a specialist in-house legal practice that supports the department's objectives by advising on the management of legal risk.
**The branch is made up of 3 sections**:
- Commercial Law Team - provide advice and legal assistance on a variety of commercial matters, including advising on significant procurements and drafting bespoke contracts to meet the needs of the department in supporting veterans.
- Information Law - provide legal advice relating to matters regarding information access and privacy, including supporting the department's Privacy Champion
- Legislation & Instruments - work collegiately across many areas of the department in order to develop primary and subordinate legislation, appointment instruments and business delegations.
**Duties**
APS4 Legal Officers generally operate under direction from Senior Legal Officers and undertake legal work with supervision, the extent of which is dependent upon complexity of legal work and experience.
- Deliver high quality legal services that meet client expectations, taking into consideration legal and non-legal risk.
- Preparation and review of legal documents, seeking guidance and advice when required.
- Develop and maintain client relationships with business areas and promote the General Counsel Division as the department's trusted advisor.
- Further develop professional legal expertise, through participation in development, training and study opportunities, and meet Continuing Legal Education requirements and other expectations.
- Support leadership of the Team and the Branch, including through promoting a positive working environment, and contributing to corporate leadership activities.
- This is an entry level position for graduate lawyers looking to work in an in-house government legal practice.
**Eligibility**
- Must have at least a Bachelor of Laws degree (or equivalent) from a recognised Australian tertiary education provider.

**Notes**
A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions (Ongoing and Non-Ongoing) within the next 18 months.
