* Salary: $152,074 – $168,164 +15.4% super

The team
The Litigation & Public Law team sits within ASIC's Corporate Legal Services business unit in the Legal Services Group. The team is responsible for advising on claims made against ASIC, governance issues including obligations under the ASIC Act, public governance, and related legislation relevant to ASIC's functions and operations, and on a range of other public law issues including ASIC delegations and authorisations. The team works closely with colleagues who advise on commercial and information‑management legal issues.
The role
As a Senior Lawyer in the Litigation & Public Law team, you will provide expert legal advice on public law issues, manage litigation and claims against ASIC, and support senior internal stakeholders. You'll also prepare reports, monitor regulatory changes, and supervise junior team members to ensure high‑quality outputs.
Responsibilities
* Deliver expert legal advice and tactical guidance related to responding to legal and other claims against ASIC, its members and staff, including claims in negligence, defamation, and breach of statutory duties.
* Advise on public law issues relevant to ASIC's operations, including delegations, decision‑making, official duties, Remuneration Tribunal issues, conflicts of interest, public interest disclosures and procedural fairness.
* Prepare internal reports and briefings concerning key matters and projects.
* Provide sound, practical and timely legal advice on matters affecting ASIC's obligations as a public regulatory body.
* Monitor the regulatory landscape to analyse regulatory reforms, legislative changes and trends.
* Mentor, guide and supervise other team members to ensure high‑quality outcomes.
* Undertake additional responsibilities or tasks as required.

About You
You will demonstrate strong technical legal capabilities, as well as excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder‑management skills. You are proactive, accountable and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Technical Requirements & Certifications
* Hold legal qualifications and be eligible for an Unrestricted Legal Practicing Certificate in a State or Territory of Australia.
* Minimum 6+ years post‑admission experience (PAE) as a lawyer, with relevant expertise in government, in‑house or law‑firm settings.
* Demonstrated understanding of the law, including the PGPA Act, ASIC Act, Public Interest Disclosure Act and other relevant legislation and policies.
* Experience in governance and compliance is highly desirable.

* Strong legal writing and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting complex information to varied audiences.
* Advanced legal technical and analytical skills in the relevant areas of law.

* Client‑service focus, with experience managing diverse stakeholders and building productive relationships.
