The role
Community Support Worker (Personal Care & High Care) - Wollongong | Casual
Build dignity, independence, and day-to-day confidence at home.
SHCS is seeking compassionate Community Support Workers to provide personal care and high-care support for clients with physical disabilities across Wollongong. This is a casual role with the option to move into part‐time, and includes paid training.
What you'll do
- Personal care (AM/PM routines): showering, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, continence support, pressure care/skin integrity, and mealtime assistance.
- High-care supports: safe transfers (hoists, slide sheets, two-person assists), positioning, mobility support, and following Behaviour/Support Plans and Care Plans.
- Medication prompts (as per plan) and basic health observations, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Daily living & home support: meal prep, light domestic tasks, and set-up for therapy/appointments.
- Community access (as needed): short trips to appointments, shopping, or local activities to maintain routines and independence.
- Documentation & communication: clear shift notes, incident/ABC reporting, and professional handovers.
Typical roster: split shifts across mornings (e.g., 8‐11am) and afternoons (e.g., 3‐6pm) to support peak personal-care times. Some weekends may be required.
About you
- You're steady, respectful, and confident with personal care and professional boundaries.
- Comfortable supporting people with physical disabilities (e.g., spinal cord injury, MS, MND, cerebral palsy, ABI) and following detailed care instructions.
- Manual handling savvy—you prioritise safety and dignity with every transfer.
- Robust communicator who can follow routines and adapt calmly to changes.
- Driver's licence & reliable vehicle; confident using apps for rosters and notes.
Highly regarded
- prior disability/home care experience
- hoist competency
- bowel care/continence support experience
- familiarity with ABC/incident reporting
Essential requirements
- First Aid & CPR
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working With Children Check
- NSW (or National) Police Check
- Driver's Licence and own transport
