The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing a range of services to the twenty-two islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, within the State of Queensland.
About the position
This is a full-time on island position but open to negotiation.
Our Council is engaged in major works and is building a new premises and upgrading some old structures. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead and manage the construction and commissioning new buildings and projects.
This is a role that will see you engaging with key stakeholders including regulators, contractors, suppliers, Council members and community groups.
This is an end-to-end project management role. Some of the key responsibilities include:
* Undertake and compile estimates for the project from the architectural and engineering specifications, from pre-planning through to handover and occupancy.
* Compile and produce schedule of works and progressive payments/claims.
* Manage tendering and contract negotiations, contractor and sub-contractor management.
* Lead safety and quality inspections and initiatives, manage all compliance and reporting requirements.
* Manage all works to the project schedule and budget, meeting project milestones and reporting requirements.
* Manage completions and certifications with regulators.
* Plan the commissioning of the building and the transition/relocation of current Council operations to the new building.
Skills and experience
Our ideal candidate will possess:
* Tertiary qualifications in construction management, project management, etc., or equivalentExtensive project management skills in a building and construction environment.
* Tertiary Qualifications or equivalent experience in a construction-related discipline ie building trades, project management.
* Demonstrated success in key stakeholder engagement at all levels.
* Knowledge of Building Construction Codes and practices, quality standards, specifications, and local development processes.
* Advanced negotiation and communication skills with proven success in contractor and sub-contractor management in a culturally diverse setting.
* Sound financial management, commercial and procurement skills.
* Sound computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office and other software applications.
* Previous experience working in an indigenous setting and ability to demonstrate a high level of cross-cultural awareness in the workplace is desirable.
