Skyborne is rapidly growing within the Defence and security space to develop and produce smart high quality robotic Defence robotics, armed and unarmed. The company's flagship products are the Cerberus sUAS and the CODiAQ robotic quadruped fire support platforms.
The company currently has contract and sales with various defence forces in the world, including the Australian, US and UK defence forces and foreign FYEV militaries.
About the Team
Skyborne has various contracts to deliver in the short to medium term. The candidate will be embedded to support the delivery of these important contracts and aid in company growth. The successful candidate will join our electronics engineering team at our office in Brisbane.
About the role
Under the supervision & mentorship of the Electronics Lead, the successful applicant will undertake variety of activities to support electrical design & development activities as part of the Electronics and Production teams.
Responsibilities
As a Graduate Electrical Engineer you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
* PCB schematic capture and layout design using Altium Designer
* Participating in schematic and layout design reviews
* PCBA design validation including bench, Hardware-In-the-Loop and field-testing methods
o Generating and following QA procedures for prototype PCBAs
o Troubleshooting hardware
o Design of automated PCBA testing procedures using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, smart power supplies and electronic loads
* Understanding and implementing relevant MIL-STDs within electrical designs
* Environmental & Electromagnetic Testing IAW relevant MIL-STDs
* Creating manufacturing documentation to transition Electrical designs to production
* Undertake tasks within allocated timeframes
* Use project management tools such as: JIRA/Atlassian Suite
* Facilitate collaboration with all Skyborne staff (Engineering & Business Divisions)
* Local, interstate, and international travel to support field testing and customer demonstrations

Skyborne seeks applicants who exemplify a rapid but thorough R&D approach to tackle complex engineering problems within the allocated project timeline. The applicant should positively contribute to the workplace environment where employees value each other, live up to their promises and communicate openly about potential upcoming challenges.
The experience and skillset best suited to this role include:
* Bachelor's degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering
* 6-12 months experience in an engineering team environment (including university team projects)
* Exposure to Altium Designer
* Hands on experience with SMD & through-hole soldering
* Hands on experience creating cable harnesses and crimping contacts
* Ability to receive constructive feedback on designs and implement accordingly
* 2D and 3D CAD experience (AutoCAD/Solidworks)
* Passion for innovation and to work in a fast paced but rewarding environment
* Ability to focus on specific problems and prioritise tasks in order to deliver best value to the business and stakeholders
* Applicants must be an Australian Citizen to meet Defence security requirements
* Eligibility and willingness to obtain an Australian Department of Defence security clearance
Additionally, it would be desirable that you have:
* Exposure to firmware development for microcontrollers (C/C++)
* Exposure to working with interfaces, such as SPI, I2C, UART, RS485, CAN
* Experience with safety-critical design, certification and design to Military Standards
* Data analysis capabilities
* Active Australian Department of Defence BASELINE security clearance
