The Career Opportunity
Diatreme is seeking a Planning and Approvals Manager to join the team and who will be responsible for managing and securing all environmental and project approvals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting Diatreme Resources' project objectives through strategic planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. This role will play a vital part in the successful delivery of the project.
About The Role
The Planning and Approvals Manager will be a full-time permanent position working 5 days per week Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week, and reporting directly to the General Manager – Development Projects. The role will be a fixed term 24-month contract with the possibility of extension if the project progresses through key milestones and approvals.
The role may be based in either the Cairns or Brisbane office.
Role and Responsibilities
* Oversee the preparation, submission, and negotiation of all approvals and environmental assessments under relevant legislation. In particular the Bilateral Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project.
* Maintain and update approvals registers and reporting obligations in alignment with project milestones.
* Manage stakeholder engagement and consultation.
* Monitor legislative changes impacting project approvals and provide assessment of changes and risk assessments.
* Identify, recommend, engage, manage, and coordinate the activities of third-party consultants needed to successfully obtain the Project Approvals in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Facilitate and maintain proactive engagement and relationships with relevant regulatory bodies.
* Identify approval schedule risks, mitigation measures and monitor approval risk profile.
* Provide strategic planning and environmental advice on legislation, government guidelines, and approval processes to internal stakeholders.
* Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics and compliance status.
* Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and risk registers for project studies.
* Drive continuous improvement in planning and environmental practices, integrating community expectations, government priorities, and project delivery needs.
* Support engagement with traditional owners, custodians, landholders, the local community and other stakeholders to ensure transparent and respectful communication throughout the process.
* Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, and provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for team members.
* Act as an advocate for sustainable and responsible mining practices, promoting the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
* Work closely with the legal and compliance departments to ensure that community engagement activities adhere to applicable regulations and agreements.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
* 10+ years' experience in environment approvals management within the mining sector.
* Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, Law, or related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience preparing Project approval documents and managing Mining License applications and renewals.
* Proven ability to direct consultant teams and manage external approval schedules to meet internal project deadlines in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills.
* In depth knowledge of environmental legislation and mining regulatory frameworks and experience within Queensland permitting and approvals.
* A proven track record in navigating complex approvals and building effective relationships with regulatory bodies.
* The ability to think on your feet, problem solve, and think strategically, aligning approvals with broader business objectives.
Additional Requirements
* C Class Manual Driver's License
* Reside in Cairns or Brisbane
* Pass a Pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol test.
* Obtain either a Blue Card, National Police Clearance, or similar.
