Effective compliance management is critical to maintaining operational licences, stakeholder relationships, and social licence to operate. They are seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager based in Adelaide to lead environmental compliance programmes across operational assets and provide compliance expertise supporting development projects. This role offers the opportunity to manage environmental performance across Australia's renewable energy landscape. The Role As Environmental Compliance Manager, you will lead environmental compliance programmes ensuring operational renewable energy assets meet regulatory obligations, approval conditions, and environmental management commitments. This role requires expertise in Australian environmental legislation, renewable energy approvals frameworks, and the ability to manage complex compliance programmes across multiple sites and jurisdictions. You will oversee compliance with development approvals, environmental licences, biodiversity management plans, and land access agreements whilst supporting development teams with approvals strategy and compliance risk assessments for new projects across multiple states. This is a hands-on role requiring site-based compliance monitoring, regulator liaison, stakeholder engagement with landholders and communities, and continuous improvement of environmental management systems. Key Responsibilities Lead environmental compliance programmes across operational wind farms, solar facilities, and battery storage assets Monitor and ensure compliance with state-based planning approval conditions, EPA licences, and environmental management plans Conduct regular site inspections and compliance audits to verify adherence to approval conditions and environmental commitments Manage environmental reporting obligations to state and Commonwealth regulators including EPA authorities and environment departments Coordinate environmental incident response, investigation, and regulatory notification processes Oversee implementation of biodiversity management plans, native vegetation offsets, and fauna management programmes Manage land access compliance including landholder agreements, property maintenance obligations, and access protocols Coordinate weed management, erosion control, and rehabilitation programmes across operational sites Support development projects with approvals compliance advice, environmental risk assessments, and approvals strategy Liaise with regulatory authorities across multiple jurisdictions on compliance matters, audit responses, and licence variations Manage cultural heritage compliance including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage management plans and consultation protocols Coordinate environmental monitoring programmes including noise, dust, flora/fauna, and water quality monitoring Drive continuous improvement in environmental management systems and compliance processes Build capability within operations and maintenance teams on environmental compliance obligations Manage relationships with landholders, local communities, and environmental stakeholders across operational sites Essential Requirements Tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management, natural resource management, or related discipline 5-8 years' experience in environmental compliance, preferably within renewable energy, infrastructure, or resources sectors Strong understanding of Australian environmental legislation including state-based environment protection acts, native vegetation legislation, and planning frameworks Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance programmes across multiple operational sites Knowledge of renewable energy approval frameworks including wind farm and solar farm development assessment processes across multiple jurisdictions Experience conducting environmental audits, inspections, and compliance reporting Understanding of environmental management plans, monitoring programmes, and biodiversity offset requirements Proven ability to liaise with regulatory authorities and manage regulatory relationships across different states Strong stakeholder engagement skills including landholder communication and community liaison Excellent report writing and compliance documentation skills Ability to interpret technical environmental reports, monitoring data, and assessment documentation Experience managing environmental incidents and regulatory notifications Desirable Criteria Experience in wind or solar renewable energy operations or development Knowledge of EPA licencing and compliance frameworks across multiple Australian states Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage legislation and consultation requirements Familiarity with biodiversity surveys, flora and fauna management, and ecological monitoring Experience with noise compliance, visual amenity, and aviation lighting requirements for wind farms Knowledge of land access agreements, easements, and property rights relevant to renewable energy infrastructure Understanding of battery energy storage system (BESS) environmental and safety compliance requirements Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems Professional membership (Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand or similar) Background in environmental consulting supporting renewable energy projects Understanding of Commonwealth EPBC Act referral and approval processes Experience working across multiple state jurisdictions and managing differing regulatory frameworks Working Arrangement Hybrid working arrangements based in Adelaide with flexibility between office and remote work. Regular site visits to operational renewable energy facilities across South Australia required (typically DIDO arrangements, may include overnight regional travel).
