The property currently runs 8,000 sheep alongside a 1,500-hectare cropping program, supported by top-tier technology and pivot irrigation to ensure consistent production cycles.
Operation & Livestock Focus
The livestock enterprise remains a core passion for the current management, centred on a carefully structured prime lamb finishing system. The breeding program is meticulously designed, beginning with purchased Merino ewes joined to Border Leicester rams to produce first-cross ewes, which are then joined to composite rams, and finally to Poll Dorset rams. This specific breed mix enables the operation to meet market specifications with extreme efficiency, typically achieving strong lambing percentages of 140% to 180%. Selling strategies remain highly responsive to market conditions. This calculated approach ensures consistent production standards while navigating the complexities of feed costs and seasonal fluctuations.
Role & Mentorship
As the Assistant Farm Manager (Lead 2IC), you will work directly alongside the current owner-manager in a mentorship-style arrangement. This role is designed for a quick career transition, with the long-term vision of the family moving toward absentee ownership. While you will not be expected to take the reins on day one, we are seeking a candidate who can earn trust through consistent hard work and reliability. You will be involved in daily management decisions, including careful calculation of feed costs relative to weight gain to ensure every extra kilogram of growth is profitable.
