The key duties of the position include:

The Role

Our Trial Administrators support the Office of the Judge Advocate General and the Registrar of Military Justice through the administration of Superior Tribunal proceedings in a collaborative, One Defence environment. The role requires strong oral and written communication, infrequent interstate travel in support of trials, and the ability to work in a team. In particular, the role requires drafting of legal forms and legal research, and familiarity with the Defence Force Discipline Act 1982 is preferred. Trial Administrators are expected to liaise professionally with ADF and APS members of all ranks and levels, within the office, the Department and external stakeholders. This role involves sensitive material and issues. Located in Fyshwick ACT, this role requires in person work and cannot be done remotely, however flexible work arrangements may be supported.

Note: This is a non-ongoing paralegal role for a period of 18 months. Candidates must hold a Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance or be willing to obtain one. Candidates must not be subject to any current code of conduct violations or performance management issues.

About our Team

The trial administration team is a small team, which consists of an APS 6 Senior Trial Administrator and four APS 5 Trial Administrators (Paralegals). This team supports senior ADF members in a unique team environment that requires individuals to work cohesively and collaboratively. This is an inclusive environment and all employees are required to uphold the APS code of conduct and Defence values and behaviours. The Office of the Judge Advocate General works independently from Defence Legal as a military justice statutory entity.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has experience in Defence or a legal environment, with strong administrative, communication and paralegal skills. Our ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of, the Microsoft suite and the capacity to develop a solid knowledge of the processes and procedures required by the Defence Force Discipline Act 1982 to administer disciplinary superior tribunal proceedings. Our ideal candidate will have excellent time management, attention to detail, embrace the Professional Mastery Model with a continuous improvement mindset, and be a proactive problem solver. Our ideal candidate will have a high level of integrity, discretion, and actively cultivate a positive workplace culture.

Eligibility

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
