Project Overview
The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. Located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people, the project is owned by Harmony, a world‐class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non‐Process Infrastructure.
Job Summary
In this role, you will support construction superintendents by developing work scope packages and cost estimates for a pre‐assembly program, including structural, piping, and electrical support infrastructure elements. You will provide field engineering expertise with work planning, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, technical inspection, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
Major Responsibilities
* Act as single point of contact for coordination and resolution of all issues related to structural, piping, and electrical (limited to electrical support infrastructure e.g., cable tray and support) execution in the pre‐assembly yard and field.
* Assist the Advanced Work Packaging team with development of work packages.
* Execute field material take‐offs from design drawings and prepare field material requisitions, monitoring status of purchase orders and deliveries.
* Perform and document inspections for the structural work scope on an ongoing basis.
* Perform and document inspections for the piping work scope on an ongoing basis.
* Coordinate with the Electrical FE to perform and document inspections for the electrical work scope on an ongoing basis.
* Review quality documentation for content and accuracy per approved inspection and test plans.
* Interpret design requirements and ensure installation methods and finished work conform to applicable design drawings, specifications, standards, and codes.
* Troubleshoot technical and constructability issues with design engineer or fabricator, using input from supervision.
* Document field changes and non‐conformances using formal approval processes.
* Participate in quality assurance reviews and facilitate resolution of quality findings related to civil structural activities.
* Review short‐ and long‐term schedules developed by supervision and verify alignment with material delivery schedules and key project milestone dates.
* Provide support to superintendents to establish requirements for manpower, tools, equipment, and material requirements.
* Verify superintendents' reported progress, resolve comments or discrepancies, and input installed quantities to Steel Slayer on an ongoing basis.
* Monitor actual work progress compared to the project schedule.
* Lead final area walk‐downs, punchlisting, close‐out, and turnover of pre‐assembled structures.
* Assist with development and review of as‐built documentation.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience with a minimum of 5 years of construction work experience in the civil/structural discipline.
* Experience in engineering of process plants or materials handling plants in Australia.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and interaction with other disciplines.
* Proven ability to manage SMP engineering packages.
* Experience in rigging construction practices and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
* Effective communication and demonstrated supervision skills.
* Solid planning and problem‐solving skills.
* Physical capabilities including extensive walking on a construction site in extreme heat and cold, climbing ladders, working on elevated platforms and scaffolds, crawling and crouching, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces for extended periods of time.
* Preference given to previous Bechtel experience.
* Experience managing technical services subcontracts is desirable.
* Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
* Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
