About Southern NSW LHD Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, totaling 44,537 sq km. It includes diverse regions from beaches to mountains, with two main networks: Inland (Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan, Cooma) and Coastal (Bega, Batemans Bay, Moruya). Work Locations Goulburn, Queanbeyan, and Cooma Hospitals are part of the Southern NSW LHD. Goulburn ED Located in a new Clinical Services Building, with approximately 100 beds, Level 4 role delineation, and a range of facilities including resuscitation beds, acute beds, and isolation rooms. The department handles 60-70 patients daily, with a wide range of conditions and significant acuity. Supported by various hospital services and a close academic partnership with the ANU Rural Clinical School. Queanbeyan ED Over 26,000 presentations in 2023, including children and elderly patients. Well-staffed with senior clinicians, no junior doctors, and opportunities for education and simulation. Accredited for ACEM emergency medicine qualifications. Cooma Hospital A 14-bed acute hospital offering emergency medicine, surgery, inpatient services, maternity, renal dialysis, oncology, pathology, pharmacy, and medical imaging. Role Responsibilities The GP VMO provides high-quality, safe clinical care in the ED and supports training and supervision of clinicians to promote education and safety. Selection Criteria Registration with AHPRA; eligible for registration as a Specialist, FRACGP, or FACRRM; or training towards these qualifications. Significant senior experience in Emergency Medicine and competence in trauma and emergency scenarios. Effective communication skills, including IT proficiency. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, provide leadership, and build partnerships. Commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, teaching, research, and quality improvement. Alignment with NSW Health CORE values and willingness to participate in a flexible roster, including nights and weekends. Additional Emergency Medicine qualifications are desirable.
