This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 290 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 350 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About the role
DroneShield is seeking a Jr. Hardware Test Engineer with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, NSW.
The position will report to the Design Engineering Lead.
This role will be responsible for the informal and formal mechanical testing of DroneShield prototypes and production units as well as managing compliance testing with external parties. This will include the writing of test plans and recording of results.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
* Consult with stakeholders to understand testing requirements
* Prepare detailed test plans, reports to be viewed by company stakeholders
* Develop in-house testing rigs and set up test equipment
* Conduct mechanical verification testing in house
* Coordinate with external parties for product certification and mechanical testing not possible within DroneShield
* Understanding and application of mechanical engineering principles and mechanical test standards
* Communicate detailed findings with product development team and suggest product improvements
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, similar technical field of study
* Experience in writing test plans and recording results
* Sound understanding of product development and testing for high volume manufacture
* Experience is setting up test equipment and sourcing test equipment from suppliers
* Experience in conducting common mechanical tests such as temperature, vibration, shock and ingress protection
* Experience taking products through formal mechanical testing and certification and engaging with test houses
* SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation experience favourable
* This position would suit a graduate
