About Us
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region. The Organisational Development Team's primary focus is to assist IUIH meet its strategic objective of growing and developing a competent and enabled health workforce. IUIH continues to experience significant workforce growth, necessitating a focus on development, management and implementation of frameworks and programs to increase Indigenous workforce participation, build required workforce skill sets, train existing staff to maximise opportunities for development and quality of care, build workforce pathways, and to create and nurture an innovative, inclusive, reflective and respectful environment built on Aboriginal Ways.
Role Overview
The Student Support Officer's role is to ensure that student(s) undertaking the Aboriginal Health Worker and/or Aboriginal Health Practitioner qualification and supervised clinical placements are culturally safe, supported and work ready. The nature of the support required will vary between students based on their needs.
Responsibilities
* Support student attendance through proactive engagement and problem-solving to address barriers.
* Deliver mentoring to strengthen students' connection to culture and community throughout their training journey.
* Provide tailored training support through the implementation and advocacy of Individual Learning Support Plans, as well as individual or group tutoring and ongoing mentoring to promote successful completion.
* Conduct community and employer site visits (where applicable) to strengthen support networks and monitor student progress.
* Engage regularly with key stakeholders including employers, students, and the broader community to ensure a holistic and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
* Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
* Current Criminal History Check
* Current Working with Children's Check (QLD Blue Card)
* Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent
Desirable (but not mandatory)
* Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or communities.
* Certificate IV or higher in Training and Assessment.
