About The Role

Murrumbidgee Local Health District have some exciting Aboriginal Mental Health Trainee positions on offer across our district.

Working under supervision and as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, the Trainee will contribute to the development and delivery of culturally responsive mental health services that promote the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people and the wider community.

The Traineeship combines paid employment with paid support to complete a university degree, Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health), through Charles Sturt University, known as the Djirruwang Program. The Djirruwang Program incorporates three components: workplace, university and clinical placements. The three components together will help the Trainee to develop into an Aboriginal Mental Health Professional who is qualified to work as a Mental Health Clinician.

Training on the job is provided by Trainees' workplaces and constitutes their major learning experiences. One of the requirements of employment is enrolment in and successful completion of a university degree related to mental health. University study provides the theory that informs Trainees' practice. Clinical placements linked to particular subjects are an assessable component of the university course. Clinical placements and rotations in a range of service settings and organisations provide comprehensive workplace experiences.
