Opera Queensland is seeking exceptional individuals to fill several Non-Executive Director vacancies as part of planned Board Succession. Two Non-Executive Director roles become available in May 2026 and active recruitment is underway for these roles.
This is an exciting opportunity for visionary Directors who are passionate about the arts and committed to driving the strategic direction of Queensland's very own Opera Company. As a Board Director you will collaborate with fellow board Directors and the executive team to shape policies, ensure financial stability, foster community engagement and grow our company.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans that align with Opera Queensland's vision and goals.
Governance: Ensure robust governance practices are maintained, including compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Financial Oversight: Monitor the organisation's financial performance and ensure compliance with audit and risk obligations
Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for Opera Queensland, promoting its work and impact within the community.
Philanthropy and fundraising: contribute to and support philanthropy and fundraising activities
Collaboration: Work closely with the Artistic Director/CEO, the Executive Leadership Team, other Board Directors, the Opera Queensland Team, donors, supporters and other stakeholders to achieve collective goals and objectives.
Selection Criteria:
* Proven track record in leadership roles, preferably within the arts, cultural, or nonprofit sectors
* A deep appreciation for opera and a passion for and commitment to advancing the arts in Queensland
* Strong strategic thinking, financial acumen, risk management skills
* Excellent communication and networking abilities
In addition to the above Opera Queensland is seeking NEDs with specific skills and experience in:
* Finance and accounting – ability and willingness to Chair the Audit & Risk Committee
* Philanthropy and fundraising
Australian Institute of Company Directors graduate, or equivalent qualifications, highly desirable, or a willingness to acquire training in board governance
OQ strongly encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds.
Expectations of Board members:
Willingness to dedicate time and effort to six Board Meetings a year; willingness to join a Board Committee (Human Resources; Audit and Risk; or Fund Raising) requiring another three or four meetings a year, attend Opera Queensland events, and support fund raising initiatives.
