- Part time (0.4 FTE) education-focused position until December 2028
- Opportunity to significantly contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the Sydney Medical School
- Base Salary starting from level C ($156,103 - $179,998) and level D ($187,960 - $207,069) pro rata + 17% superannuation + Full clinical loading (pro-rata)

About the prospect
The Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) operates in four geographically dispersed Health Precincts including the Baludarri (Western Precinct). The Faculty comprises seven academic schools including Sydney Medical School (SMS) offering a vast range of health courses and engaging in research across all medicine and health disciplines working in partnership with numerous health and industry partners.
Formed in 1856, Sydney Medical School is the oldest medical school in Australia. It accommodates around 1200 medical students undertaking a four-year graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine program. In addition, students undertake a range of higher degrees by research or coursework, including PhD and Masters degrees to, graduate diplomas and graduate certificate courses. In addition to teaching and research facilities located at the Westmead campuses, Sydney Medical School is comprised of five other metropolitan clinical schools and two rural clinical schools where students undertake the majority of the Medical Program.
The Westmead Clinical School (WCS) is seeking a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor. Within its 0.4 FTE portfolio fraction, this role would support the WCS Office and its Head of Clinical School academically. Sydney Medical School's WCS has access to the full clinical, teaching and research staff resources of the Westmead Hospital. The School promotes interdisciplinary teaching and learning and has teachers and researchers in University, Local Health District and Private practice roles. The School's affiliates are deeply involved in all aspects of the school's activities and relate through the WCS administration and Head of Clinical School.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- provide leadership in the development, implementation and promotion of clinical/education programs for MD students at WCS and Westmead Hospital
- act as Student Support lead, to facilitate guidance to medical students to undertake their degree, including those who need additional academic review and support
- facilitate Affiliate application assessment and processes directed to the Clinical School
- help oversee strategic planning and financial management including budgets, operations improvement, and health system development and management
- provide clinical care as part of the health care team, in relevant areas of medicine including in actively contributing to all department activities, e.g. quality and safety and service improvement
- collaborate with Sydney Primary Health Network, the Sydney Clinical School of General Practice and across other divisions and departments to develop annual and long-term plans for improving health care quality, safety, process improvement and value
- promote a culture that is collaborative, team oriented, and one that respects the skill sets and opinions of all faculty and staff.

About you
Senior lecturer - Level C

- are a medical practitioner registered in NSW (or eligible to be registered) who has a part time salaried role within the WSLHD
- holds fellowship of an Australasian medical specialist college as recognised by Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA), e.g. FRACP, (all levels)has a PhD in a related field or related higher qualification
- has experience in teaching and learning of medical practitioners or students (Level B), including demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
- understands and is able to support academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research
- has an affinity with students and can offer them a supportive learning environment (all levels)
- hold a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other higher professional qualifications (eg Medical Education, Leadership or Research)
- demonstrate experience working in a tertiary educational institution working with academics, clinicians, and students
- demonstrate extensive experience in people leadership within the higher education sector or medicine and health, including demonstrated success in supervising and/or mentoring others towards success
- demonstrate leadership, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly and/or pedagogical research activities, recognized at a national level
- hold a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry (clinical) and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of education in the discipline, Clinical School, School, Faculty and University.
- demonstrate a broad knowledge of the Australian Healthcare system.
