Position Overview
The Australian Equities team are looking for an experienced Investment Analyst to join their team in Melbourne. This role forms part of a high performing and entrepreneurial investment team, reporting to the Head of Australian Equities Research. In this role, you will support the Portfolio Managers by undertaking research and building financial models to support investment recommendations for the Yarra Australian Equities strategies. You will be required to present and articulate viewpoints and justifications in peer forums. You will cover individual companies across various sectors, undertaking research and building financial models to support investment thesis.
The successful applicant will have 5+ years' experience covering Australian equities, whether in funds management, consulting firm, stockbroking organisation, banking, or as part of an in‐house corporate development team. You will have a strong intellect, high integrity, high quality standards, attention to detail and bring strong financial acumen. You will be confident and curious by nature, have a passion for equity markets, and your positive approach will enable you to build relationships with colleagues, company management, and clients alike.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with the Australian Equities team to provide insightful investment research and analysis, conducting industry and detailed company research.
* Conducting fundamental analysis of companies to provide investment recommendations.
* Develop and maintain financial models and databases to forecast company earnings and valuations.
* Providing information on positioning and investment strategy for regular reporting requirements and ad hoc queries.
* Cultivate senior contacts within industry, with close exposure to CEO/CFO level executives.
* Liaising with companies, stockbrokers, portfolio managers and external clients.
* Assist in developing models and preparing reports for existing portfolios.
* Stay abreast of industry trends to identify key opportunities, themes and strategies.
* Participation in peer‐review process of internally generated investment research.
* Presenting investment ideas to internal and external clients and other stakeholders.
* Contribute to monthly written commentary on investment performance and strategy to be included in client reports where applicable.
* Provide ad hoc client reporting as requested by clients, relationship managers and as information affecting the portfolio comes to light.
* Collaborate with the wider Australian Equities team as well as other internal and external stakeholders on cross‐functional projects.
Key skills, Experience and Qualifications
* 5+ years' experience as an analyst covering Australian equites.
* Excellent research, financial modelling and analytical skills.
* Superior communication and interpersonal skills both oral and written.
* Ability to succinctly and confidently present investment ideas.
* Interest and capability in broad sectoral coverage.
* Must be self‐reliant, resourceful and proactive at the same time a collaborative team player.
* Ability to think outside the box and work through complex investment problems/issues.
