WEA Illawarra is a not-for-profit Community College, Registered Training Organisation and Public Benevolent Institution. Our vision: connected and thriving communities of lifelong learners. Our purpose: to provide transformational education and training experiences. We have been operating continuously for 110 years, proudly offering quality, community-based adult education, leisure and work skills, nationally accredited training, and foundation skills services. Our funded programs service a range of learners, including young people, workplace trainees, jobseekers, people with different abilities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, seniors and other community members seeking new skills, personal growth, and development.
About the Roles
We are looking for exceptional accredited Foundation Skills and LLND Trainers and Assessors to work within a range of programs in the Illawarra Region:
Employment is on a sessional/casual basis;
Flexibility regarding the number of hours per week available;
Opportunity to work with the programs most suited to your skills, experience, and passion;
Training may be delivered on or off campus and delivery modes may be face-to-face, online or a blended hybrid model, or may involve visiting workplace trainees.
The key responsibilities include designing and delivering high quality training and assessment which:
is student centred;
facilitates engaging learning experiences and motivates students to complete their qualification;
supports students to increase their confidence and employability;
is culturally safe, inclusive, and responsive to needs and abilities.
You will be required to complete training and assessment records in a timely manner, continue to learn and grow as a Trainer-Assessor through your own professional development, and work within a team to participate in the development, validation and moderation of training and assessment practice and materials as part of our quality improvement activities.
About You
You have the ability to build rapport with students from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages and abilities as well as maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. You can focus on the strengths that students bring and have a growth mindset which helps your students achieve their outcomes. You think about innovative and fun ways to deliver training and reflect on ways you can improve. You have excellent communication and time management skills. You have well developed digital literacy skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite (including Microsoft Teams). You understand the Vocational Education and Training industry, have appropriate work rights in Australia, hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check clearance, minimum Class C Driver Licence and access to a comprehensively insured motor vehicle.
It is essential that you:
satisfy the requirements for assessors to meet the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015, utilised in delivery of other training programs.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110, TAE40116 or TAE40122), or its successor*,
or a diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education.
have sound knowledge of the ACSF and performance features of the ACSF level being assessed.
have demonstrable expertise, knowledge and skills in the vocational contextualisation and assessment of the core skills, and have completed the following or equivalent:
TAESS00009 Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set; or
a higher-level education qualification, such as:
TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice (and its equivalent TAE70111); or
Bachelor of Education, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Education, or higher. This may include qualifications relating to TESOL, adult education or vocational education.
current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs your training and assessment. Be prepared to undertake regular professional development and compliance tasks relevant to your industry/ vocational training and assessment practices and processes.
We encourage expression of interest from candidates who hold an education degree (qualifications that enables registration as a secondary school teacher in any state or territory) to be engaged as trainers and/or assessors. This is subject to ASQA guidelines.
