Product Engineer
Digital & Data | Hobart (Franklin Wharf) | Hybrid working

The Opportunity

Are you the bridge between technology and business?

Tassal is seeking a Product Engineer to join our Digital & Data team in a unique hybrid role that blends technical capability with strong product and business thinking. This is a fast-paced, highly collaborative opportunity working at the intersection of technology and operations across our vertically integrated seafood business.

This role is central to our delivery capability. We are building data-driven operational solutions that optimise scheduling, resource planning and decision-making across farming, supply chain and processing. You will play a critical role in ensuring these solutions solve real business problems by deeply understanding user needs, operational constraints and technical possibilities.

Based in Hobart at our Franklin Wharf office, with hybrid flexibility, this role offers the opportunity to collaborate regionally and globally as part of the Cooke Inc group.

What You Will Do

* Act as the key link between Digital & Data teams and business users across data, analytics and operational initiatives

* Gather, analyse and translate business requirements into clear technical plans that you and fellow developers can deliver

* Maintain strong knowledge of Tassal’s digital and data platforms and roadmap, including Snowflake, Power Platform and modern web technologies

* Engage directly with stakeholders to understand data, analytics and operational challenges through workshops, user research and demonstrations

* Work closely with developers to design solutions, prioritise work and balance technical constraints with business expectations

* Contribute hands-on to delivery within your technical skillset, whether front-end development, data engineering or analytics

* Develop documentation, user guides and training materials to support adoption and value realisation

About You

Essential qualifications and experience:

* Technical or development skills in at least one area: front-end development (React, Vue, Angular), low-code development & automation, data engineering (SQL, ETL, dbt), or analytics.

* Proven ability to understand and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders - translating between worlds is your strength.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to think through complex operational constraints and trade-offs.

* Experience in a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar hybrid role is highly valued.

* Understanding of software development lifecycles, agile methodologies, and delivery practices.

* User-focused mindset with passion for delivering value and solving real business problems.

Highly advantageous:

* Experience with data platforms, business intelligence tools, or analytics systems.

* Familiarity with operational scheduling, constraint-based optimisation, or supply chain concepts.

* Experience in manufacturing, ag, livestock, aquaculture, or food production environments.
