Independent Member – Audit and Risk Committee
Merri-Bek City Council is seeking an independent member (or two positions) to serve on its Audit and Risk Committee, providing independent assurance on financial reporting, audit, internal controls, risk management, regulatory compliance and performance reporting.
Selections
The Committee comprises three councillors and four independent members. Positions to commence: 3 March **** (member) and 2 June **** (chairperson).
Term, Remuneration and Meeting Frequency
Initial term: 3 years. At the conclusion of the first term, may be reappointed for another 3-year term subject to satisfactory performance.
Fee calculated per meeting: Independent Member – $1,******; Chairperson – $2,******. Fee includes preparation and attendance; paid following each meeting upon receipt of tax invoice.
Committee meets four times a year, with potential special meetings. Expected to meet in person at Coburg Civic Centre – 90 Bell Street Coburg. Meetings are held outside business hours, typically 5:45 pm to 8:30 pm.
Selection Criteria (Qualifications)
Familiarity with governance and operations in Victorian Local Government, current and emerging risks, and control strategies relevant to the sector.
Relevant professional qualifications and experience in business management, finance, law, risk management, audit and compliance.
Knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the position as outlined in the Charter.
Broad understanding of the legal requirements of the Local Government Act **** and the Local Government Act ****.
Industry, business, financial and leadership skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

A member of Merri-Bek City Council staff.
An elected member of Merri-Bek City Council.
