Manager, Digital Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence
As one of the world's leading grains research organisations, the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) plays an integral role in driving research outcomes and innovations that directly benefit Australia's grain industry. GRDC's purpose is to invest in research, development and extension (RD&E) to create enduring profitability for Australian grain growers.
We are seeking a Manager, Digital Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence based in Canberra.
GRDC is happy to review applications from alternate locations on a case-by-case basis, noting that Adelaide and Canberra are preferred.
Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enabling Technologies, you will lead the identification, development, and management of R&D investments that apply digital agronomy, precision agriculture, and AI-driven solutions to the grains sector. You'll work across a diverse portfolio—from remote sensing and on-farm automation to data-driven crop management—ensuring projects deliver real value to Australian grain growers.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and managing high-impact R&D proposals and investments.
Providing technical leadership across GRDC's broader portfolio, including genetics, crop protection, and farming systems.
Building and maintaining strong networks with industry, research, and commercial partners.
Supporting commercialisation and adoption pathways for innovative technologies.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
5+ years of experience in digital agriculture, ag-tech, data science, or agronomy.
Proven ability to develop business cases and manage complex R&D projects.
Strong negotiation, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
A passion for innovation and a track record of delivering results in a collaborative environment.
Mandatory Requirements:
Must be prepared to travel as and when required.
Must be willing to undergo all Pre-employment Medical checks.
Must have a valid Australian Driver's Licence as deemed necessary.
