Primary objective

Assist with the development of budget papers and other relevant financial management publications. Undertake research

and analysis, prepare briefings and advice, and assist with the implementation of strategies and policy relating to budget and

financial management matters.

Context statement

As an Analyst in the Budget Development team, you will work as part of a small team that develops the Northern Territory's

budget papers and other relevant financial management publications and provides evidence-based advice on strategic

budget and financial management priorities. You will work with the team, other Treasury divisions and other government

agencies to analyse emerging issues and develop high quality, evidence-based advice to inform solutions.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Undertake analysis and evaluation of proposals, policies and issues affecting the Territory from a budget and financial

management perspective.

2. Assist with the development of budget papers and other relevant publications.

1. Prepare a range of high-level documentation including Ministerial briefings; policy advice; reports and discussion papers.

2. Foster professional and effective working relationships across government including representing and promoting the

interests of Treasury and the Territory on interdepartmental forums.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated ability to undertake analysis and evaluation of proposals, policies and issues affecting the Territory from

a budget and financial management perspective.

2. Sound written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate technical work to a general audience.

3. Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a small team.

4. Sound time management and organisational skills, including an ability to prioritise commitments, meet critical deadlines

while maintaining quality standards.

5. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy, commerce, finance, law or a related discipline.

2. Knowledge of contemporary public sector budget and financial management frameworks.

Further information

Candidates will be required to make a conflict-of-interest declaration and pre-employment checks may be undertaken for

some applicants. This position may be required to work overtime at peak times of the year.
