Food Technologist – Melbourne VIC
Kogan People Solutions, recruiters, are assisting a well-established specialist advisory firm specialising in food law consultancy, compliance risk management, certification of product compliance integrity for food and beverage products and other allied products.
The firm is now seeking an experienced and qualified Food Technologist to join the team representing and supporting a diverse client base across Australia and internationally including food manufacturers, importers, distributors, brand marketers, retailers, industry associations, medicine and life science groups, and agribusinesses.
About the Role
You will provide technical expertise to support clients in product development, compliance, and market readiness across a broad range of products, including general foods, formulated and supplemented foods, animal products, and therapeutic goods. Working alongside regulatory and consulting professionals, you will contribute to delivering practical, science-based solutions aligned with industry standards and client needs.
* Salary – Negotiable in the range of $75k to $85k plus superannuation per annum

Key Responsibilities
* Lead and support R&D trials to inform product development and technical advisory outcomes.
* Provide input into product development and reformulation in line with regulatory and commercial requirements.
* Develop and maintain HACCP and food safety programs aligned with the Australian Food Standards Code.
* Prepare and review product specifications, technical documentation, and labelling considerations.
* Deliver practical, science-based advice on quality, safety, and compliance matters to clients.
* Support product commercialisation, ensuring alignment between development, compliance, and market readiness.
* Collaborate with internal specialists and client stakeholders across quality, regulatory, and operations functions.
* Conduct product assessments, including sensory and performance evaluations where required.
* Utilise internal compliance systems and tools to support efficient, accurate advisory services.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across client solutions and internal processes.
* Monitor and interpret developments in food science, regulation, and industry practice to inform client guidance.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Must hold a relevant tertiary qualification (bachelor's degree) in a highly aligned field.
* Minimum one or more years of relevant industry employment experience in food manufacturing, product development, or advisory environments.
* Demonstrated knowledge of food composition, processing, and quality principles, chemical analysis, and quality assurance systems (HACCP principles).
* Enthusiasm, creativity, and a genuine passion for natural health foods and clean-label formulation.
* Strong work ethics, exceptional attention to detail, and outstanding communication skills for clear technical reporting.
* Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related discipline.
* Experience in food manufacturing, product development, or advisory environments.
* Working knowledge of Australian/New Zealand food standards is desirable.
* Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail.
