About the Position
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges in Cairns, Queensland.
As a Peer Practitioner, you will leverage your lived or living experience of mental health and/or alcohol and drug challenges to provide person-centred, recovery-focused support. You will work closely with individuals to develop daily living skills, strengthen social connections, and foster a sense of purpose.
The role requires travel, and a fleet car is provided for convenience.
Main Responsibilities
* Utilize your expertise in mental ill health and recovery to build meaningful relationships, offer hope, and support others on their recovery journey.
* Deliver high-quality services that cater to the unique needs of individuals, adopting a flexible and person-centred approach.
* Provide resources and support to help individuals establish positive relationships with those important to them.
* Engage in regular training, peer co-reflection, and professional development to enhance your practice.
* Support individuals in navigating services and connecting with community supports that promote confidence, independence, and meaningful participation in daily life.
* Contribute actively to co-design and service improvement, championing the voice and leadership of people with lived experience.
Your Qualifications and Experience
* A tertiary qualification (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), or a related field is required.
* Previous experience in using lived experience and expertise in a dedicated Peer role is highly desirable.
* Experience, expertise, and/or desire to work directly with individuals with mental health issues, as well as their families and carers.
* Experience and/or commitment in providing empathic, person-centred relational support.
