2025 Geriatrics Registrar (Part Time)

2 days per week (0.4 FTE)

- Broad exposure to a range of core geriatric medicine rotations with opportunity to gain further experience in our comprehensive continence service, community geriatric medicine program and the newly established Perioperative Medicine (POPS) clinic.
- Opportunity to be involved in teaching of medical students through Deakin University Medical School and leadership training via the subacute chief registrar role.

About The Facility
Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong, the McKellar Centre, Barwon Health North, and residential aged care facilities across the region. We deliver mental health, community health and dental services through programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac. The Department of Geriatric Medicine has expanded to include 15 geriatricians and up to 8 registrar positions in the department, with services spanning University Hospital Geelong consultative services, Orthogeriatric Service, Telehealth for regional RACFs, subacute programs, and multiple clinics including Continence, Falls and Balance, Perioperative Medicine (POPS), Chronic Wound, and GEM CRC.

About The Role
Barwon Health provides opportunities for a broad range of experience for geriatric medicine advanced trainees in a well-supported environment. Rotations include community programs (ACAS, Residential In-Reach, domiciliary TCP), inpatient GEM unit,, Orthogeriatrics, Acute Hospital Consults, residential TCP, and specialist clinics (including CDAMS, Continence Service, Falls and Balance, Perioperative Medicine Clinic, Chronic Wound, and Geriatric Medicine CRC). Trainees gain significant exposure to community geriatric medicine and the Continence Service. There is also a robust affiliation with Deakin University Medical School and opportunities to teach final year medical students in aged care rotation, plus access to research support with Barwon Health and Deakin University.

Barwon Health currently has 6 advanced trainee positions in Geriatric Medicine with accreditation for 24 months of core training. There is an option for leadership training through the Chief Registrar role. Applicants may participate in PMCV Centralised Match for 2026 Geriatric Medicine Advanced Trainees in Victoria and may apply for regional training partnership positions with Western Health or Melbourne Health outside the PMCV match.
