We’re ideally looking for candidates with at least 2 years of post-qualification clinical experience, with preference for those having 6–12 months of prior ICU experience.
Intensive Care registrars in New Zealand train under the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) (https://www.cicm.org.au/) on a six-year (FTE) pathway that includes experience in internal medicine, anaesthesia, and emergency medicine.
Registrars rotate through a range of ICU settings, managing critically ill patients with close supervision, protected teaching time, and access to funded training in a supportive team environment. Training programmes will vary between each of our districts, each offering unique experiences and learning opportunities.

Standardised Pay & Benefits
RMOs receive nationally standardised salaries with additional allowances for after-hours work and long service. Benefits may include:
- 6 weeks of annual leave

- Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance
Streamlined Registration for Eligible Doctors
