**Job Title:** Deputy Clinical Leader
Job Description
The successful candidate will play a vital role in the overall management of the clinical area, ensuring delivery of high standards of care to patients and their families. They will act as a clinical role model, providing leadership and support to both nursing and medical staff, promoting a safe working environment.
They will be responsible for utilising specialist skills to provide high standards of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care pathways. The post holder is also responsible for contributing to the management and coordination of the ward, providing leadership and supervision to others carrying out all aspects of the caring process.
Additionally, they will liaise and communicate with networks internal and external to the trust, actively contribute to setting and maintaining a high standard of nursing care, and act as a role model for teaching, assessing, and supporting students and learners on placement.
They will participate in education, development, and mentorship of other staff and deputise and take charge of the ward in the absence of the ward manager. The post holder will also have the opportunity to develop project management skills in a specialist area of paediatric care within a supportive environment.
**Main Duties:**
* Undertake induction and competency programmes appropriate to the role.
* Undertake specialist education training as required to deliver paediatric care through new ways of working.
* Act as a clinical expert and use own knowledge to develop and enhance the development, skills, and competence of others.
* Work collaboratively with the practice development team to ensure education and development opportunities are provided for the ward team.
* Act as a clinical resource, mentor/assessor/supervisor/preceptor of learners and staff as required.
* Actively promote and participate in clinical supervision/mentorship or equivalent support mechanisms.
* Ensure that learners are provided with and encouraged to take advantage of learning outcomes that will enable them to meet their clinical placement objectives.
* In the absence of the ward manager, ensure there is adequate support, safe mentorship, and supervision of learner nurses and all staff.
* Accept delegated line management responsibilities of other team members, actively contributing to performance review and the appraisal and personal development planning process within the knowledge and skills framework.
* Ensure that self and all nursing staff practice at all times in accordance with the NMC code of professional practice, raising any concerns with the ward manager and acting accordingly.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Registration as an RSCN Or RN(Child) on the NMC register
Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to further study
Teaching and assessing qualification, Mentorship/sign-off mentorship
PALS/APLS/EPLS provider
Holds Leo/RCN Leadership Course or equivalent (Certificate of Achievement) or working towards
Appropriate experience and competent in areas of expanded practice such as cannulation and venepuncture, ECG recording
Interest and academic ability to undertake further education in paediatric care

Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
Co-ordinate the patients discharge arrangements in accordance with NGH Local Discharge Policy
Ensure the education of patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified
Assist the Unit Manager in the completion of a training needs analysis and ensure compliance of the team with Trust expectations in relation to mandatory training and appraisals
Assist the Unit Manager in the development of team members, participating in the performance of staff appraisal using the NHS knowledge and skills framework
Assist the Unit Manager in the monitoring workload and skill mix, planning duty rotas ensuring the unit operates effectively and safely
Assist the Unit Manager in managing the unit team in accordance with Trust policies and procedure i.e. the management of sickness/absence
Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff for the unit including orientation of new staff
Maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff
Quality Assurance and Monitoring
Actively promote evidence-based practice within the clinical area
Contribute to audit initiatives
Participate in setting and reviewing standards for practice and evaluating outcomes as part of the clinical governance agenda
Maintain and promote an awareness of evidence-based practice and participate in its implementation
Drive research and service improvement/development programmes within the department
Develop and maintain an understanding of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment, supported the Unit Manager in the control of departmental budget
Be responsible for the effective and efficient use of clinical and physical resources
