We are seeking an experienced Science Senior Technician to provide specialist technical support to our Science Department and ensure the effective and secure operation of our laboratories.
About the Role
The Science Senior Technician supports laboratory preparation, equipment maintenance, chemical management, and the delivery of high-quality practical science experiences. Working closely with teachers and students, this role ensures that all laboratory activities meet safety, regulatory, and curriculum requirements. The position sits within a large and cooperative Science team of approximately 36 staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and organise laboratory equipment, materials, chemicals, and resources
- Prepare solutions, media, stains, and resources for practical classes
- Support practical classes, excursions, incursions, and competitions
- Ensure compliance with OH&S; legislation, particularly in handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous substances
- Maintain hazardous substances registers, prepare risk assessments, and implement risk control strategies
- Oversee laboratory cleanliness, security, and equipment calibrationResearch, trial, and recommend new experiments and equipment
- Provide in-class support to teachers and students during practical sessions
- Support curriculum planning through preparation of materials and online updates
- Obtain relevant permits and licences for plants, animals, and chemicals
- Train staff in specialist skills as required
- Uphold all Child Safe Standards and College policies
About You
Essential:
- Diploma or Certificate IV in a relevant field, with related experience
- Strong knowledge of OH&S; requirements, hazardous substances, and risk assessment processes
- Effective communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- Competence in technology and laboratory equipment
- Professional conduct and confidentiality
- Right to work in Australia and understanding of Victorian Child Safe Standards
Desirable:
- Experience in a secondary school science laboratory
- Relevant tertiary qualification
