Energy Transition Specialist
Australia's energy sector is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by the goal of achieving a net-zero economy by 2050. At the heart of this transition is the need for accurate and reliable forecasting tools to support the smooth operation of the energy market.
The Operational Forecasting team within AEMO's Operational Support Division plays a critical role in developing and maintaining these forecasting tools. As an Energy Transition Specialist, you will be part of this team, working on delivering data science services to support the development of Machine Learning models, custom tools, and software to assist with the delivery of forecast services.
About The Role
This role can be based in any capital city and involves working with advanced computational resources and toolkits, including AI/ML, while engaging with internal and external stakeholders such as energy market participants, regulators, and weather providers.
* Support the Operational Forecasting team in delivering its forecast obligations through assisting in producing forecasts, validating outcomes, and developing/maintaining systems and tools used by the operational stream.
* Assist with project development tasks, including the Engineering Roadmap and its subcomponents to develop the tools needed to deliver quality forecasts as the system evolves with the energy transition.
What You Will Bring To The Role
To succeed in this role, you will need to bring relevant tertiary qualifications such as Computer Science, Data Science, Software Development, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering. Understanding of the Australian energy market and its operation is desirable but not essential.
* Ideally, you should have a statistical or data science background to deliver demand, wind, and solar forecasts, including assisting with the design and development of conceptual models for answering operational, business, or regulatory questions.
* You should have some exposure to software development best practices, including collaborative coding standards, dev-test-release cycles, and GitOps, used to implement models, data flows, and dashboards in Python, R, SQL, or similar.
* Knowledge of containerisation technology and a willingness to learn Linux system administration, including networking and storage.
* Experience in undertaking data preparation and manipulation for big-data analysis.
* Ability to communicate both verbally and written in a clear, accurate, and concise manner.
