Senior Application & Platform Engineer
We’re looking for a seasoned engineer who thrives in complex environments and enjoys taking ownership of critical applications that keep a major government‑facing platform running smoothly. What you’ll be doing
* Taking the lead on administering and supporting Linux‑based applications, ensuring stability across distributed and multi‑tier environments.
* Working hands‑on with modern DevOps tooling—think automation, CI/CD, configuration management, and environment build pipelines.
* Managing and supporting enterprise application servers (JBoss EAP), from installation and configuration through to deployment and troubleshooting.
* Maintaining and supporting the messaging layer for a large‑scale application, using technologies such as IBM MQ or Apache ActiveMQ.
* Using your database know‑how (Oracle experience highly regarded) to query, monitor and support application data flows and transaction behaviour.
* Investigating issues across applications and infrastructure—logs, performance, networking, dependencies—and documenting your findings clearly.
* Sharing your knowledge with the team and helping uplift capability across the group.
* Participating in an on‑call rotation to provide after‑hours support when required.
* Providing operational support for containerised environments; Kubernetes familiarity is a bonus, not a blocker.
* Working with Java‑based applications and general networking concepts (protocols, connectivity, certificates) where needed.
What you’ll bring
* Strong background in Linux application administration and troubleshooting.
* Solid experience with DevOps practices and tools such as Ansible, Azure DevOps, automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
* Exposure to enterprise middleware, messaging platforms, and application servers.
* Ability to diagnose complex issues across infrastructure and applications, with a methodical and collaborative approach.
* Clear communication skills and the ability to mentor others.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience (typically 6–8 years).
* Baseline security clearance is preferred, or the ability to obtain one.
