Overview
The Welder is responsible for assembling metal structures and components by interpreting technical drawings and applying appropriate welding techniques. This role requires attention to detail, strong technical skills, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Interpret and study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements
* Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for fabrication
* Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines
* Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand tools, machinery, and heat-based techniques
* Align components to be joined using hand tools and precision measuring instruments
* Join metal sections using various welding techniques, as well as bolting and riveting where required
* Inspect and examine welds to ensure quality, including bead width, penetration, and accuracy
* Finish fabricated products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and applying chemical treatments where necessary
* Clean and smooth welds using filing, chiseling, and grinding tools
* Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company procedures
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
* Relevant trade qualification in Welding, Fabrication, or similar (preferred)
Experience:
* Previous experience in welding or metal fabrication (essential)
* Experience working with various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick)
* Experience in manufacturing or heavy industry (advantageous)
Skills:
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
* Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
* Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices
