We are currently partnering with a large, complex organisation operating at scale across Australia to appoint a Category Manager for a direct procurement portfolio, with end-to-end responsibility for sourcing, supplier strategy and contract outcomes. This hands‐on role offers genuine influence for a commercially astute professional who enjoys working close to the business, navigating complexity, and delivering tangible results in dynamic market conditions.
The Opportunity
This is a true ownership role, with full accountability for setting and delivering category strategy end-to-end across a business-critical direct procurement portfolio central to operational continuity.
There is genuine visibility into senior leadership and involvement in decisions with real commercial consequence. This is a visible role with scope to shape strategy, strengthen supply resilience and drive continuous improvement in a fast‐moving, less‐corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and deliver end‐to‐end procurement category strategies, from market analysis through to execution roadmaps
* Lead complex sourcing and tender processes, including market engagement, evaluation, negotiation and contract award
* Drive strong commercial outcomes through effective negotiation and supplier relationship management
* Oversee contract mobilisation, governance and performance management
* Actively manage cost, risk and supply continuity in an inflationary and volatile market
* Partner closely with senior stakeholders to support informed, forward‐looking commercial decisions
* Provide leadership and coordination across supporting procurement resources within the category
What We're Looking For
You're an autonomous, commercially sharp procurement professional who's done this before not just contributed to strategy, but owned it. You bring:
* Proven experience leading category strategies end‐to‐end in complex, industrial or operational environments
* Strong commercial acumen, you understand cost drivers, risk levers, and how to create value in volatile markets
* Experience translating strategy into practical, executable outcomes
* Confidence operating in dynamic, fast‐paced environments with competing priorities
* A track record of effective commercial negotiation and senior stakeholder influence
* Experience within large organisations with significant operational footprints
* Experience across direct procurement categories within complex operating environments is highly regarded
