About the role

As a Technical Officer in the Blood Bank, you'll play an important part in ensuring patients receive safe, timely and high-quality transfusion support. Each day brings meaningful work, from performing pre-transfusion compatibility testing and antenatal serology to completing the essential activities involved in blood product supply.

You'll be hands-on with complex serological investigations, contribute to smooth laboratory operations by monitoring and prioritising workflow, and provide valued support in training new staff as they develop their expertise.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with senior laboratory colleagues to resolve blood supply and testing matters, while also building strong relationships with clinical teams who rely on your guidance and clear communication. You'll liaise with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to maintain adequate stock levels and ensure availability of critical blood products.

As part of a dedicated 24/7 service, you'll be a key contributor to the safe, reliable and patient-centred care that underpins the Blood Bank's vital work.

About You

You're someone who brings strong technical capability, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to your work, with the professionalism and reliability needed to support a busy Transfusion Service.

Essential minimum requirements

* Diploma-level qualification in Medical Laboratory Science or a relevant technical discipline
* Competent in routine Transfusion Service operations with up-to-date immunohaematology knowledge
* Able to prioritise tasks, solve problems and deliver high-quality work within set timeframes
* Confident communicator who works well in a team and maintains professionalism with sensitive information
* Willing and able to fully participate in the laboratory's 24-hour, 7-day roster
