Initial 6-month contract | Hybrid Working | North Sydney Location
We are seeking a Non-Functional Business Analyst to join our client on an initial 6-month contract, supporting a global provider of investigative analytics and intelligence software with their database uplift.
Responsibilities
- Performing gap analysis to identify shortfalls in the design or implementation that may prevent the system from meeting required performance, security, or availability targets.
- Gather, document, and validate the full-stack NFRs, covering aspects like performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
- Translating high-level business goals (e.g., "fast response time") into measurable, technical NFRs (e.g., "95% of API calls must complete in under 500 milliseconds").
- Defining detailed cybersecurity requirements (e.g., authentication, authorisation, encryption protocols) aligned with industry best practice and regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO 27001, PCI DSS, etc.).
- Specifying requirements for proactive security measures, including Penetration Testing (Pen Testing) scope, required coverage, and acceptable risk tolerance levels.
- Ensuring requirements address security across the full stack (network, infrastructure, application, and data layers).
- Setting clear requirements for High Availability (HA), including defining acceptable uptime (e.g., "four nines," or 99.99%) and the required architectural redundancy (e.g., multi-AZ deployment in AWS).
- Developing and documenting requirements for Disaster Recovery (DR), specifying Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and the associated failover/failback procedures.
- Comparing documented NFRs against the proposed architectural design, configuration, and implemented features.
- Recommending technical changes to the architecture or infrastructure to close these gaps.
- Maintaining the traceability map that links each NFR to the relevant design documentation, development work, and project phases.
- Ensuring the necessary test coverage for compliance and risk mitigation is established, and crucially map NFRs to specific test cases, including performance tests, load tests, security tests, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scenarios that validate the non-functional behaviour of the system.
Qualifications
- At least five years' experience as a Non-Functional Technical Business Analyst with solid experience in delivering large scale digital transformation or system implementation projects
- Hands‑on experience working in Agile environments, with a strong understanding of Agile principles and methodologies
- A strong understanding of technology and the ability to engage in technical discussions with development teams
- Experience working with software vendors / technology providers
- Experience working with tools such as the Atlassian Suite of products and Office 365 and experience with APIs, Microsoft SQL and SQL Stored Procedures
