Berry North is a family owned business that specialises in the protected cropping production of blueberries. Our blueberry orchards are located near Atherton and Dimbulah, Queensland.
About the role This position is a hands-on, outdoors role providing horticultural assistance to our Blueberry Breeding and Research and Development activities. This role is ideally suited to those with a passion for plants and an interest in plant breeding. It focuses on substrate blueberry production, blueberry breeding, new production methods, and varietal performance. The role is based at our Atherton farm but requires regular travel to our Dimbulah farm.
The key responsibilities include:
Research and development projects focused on field trial work. Identifying and assessing blueberry seedlings and selections. Harvesting fruit and testing samples. Data collection, analysis, and reporting related to new varieties and techniques. Scouting for pests and diseases, and reporting levels. Applying pheromone traps, beneficial insects, and crop protection techniques. Inspecting crop health and irrigation needs. Sampling, testing, and monitoring crop nutrition. Collaborating with breeding partners. Skills and Experience Qualification in Horticulture/Science or equivalent experience. A passion for plants and fruit production. Ability to analyze, interpret, and report data. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to work independently and in a team. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
