About Us

The Peel Harvey Biosecurity Group is a not-for-profit organisation operating under the Associations Incorporation Act 2014. It is a recognised biosecurity group under the Western Australia Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 and receives funding from the Declared Pest Account (DPA) administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The DPA is made up of funds collected by a Declared Pest Rate on landowners in the Peel Harvey operational area who hold more than one hectare, and matched dollar for dollar by the state government. The Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 stipulates what Declared Pest Rates can be spent on, including the following:

* To promote public awareness of the measures being taken, or required to be taken, to control declared pests.
* To carry out measures to control declared pests.
* To purchase capital assets required in connection with the above activities.

About the role

The role of the PHBG Equipment Officer is to provide support to the PHBG in delivering established declared pest programs within the PHBG operational area. The role's main responsibility is to administer and deliver the PHBG equipment program that provides tools to landholders to control and manage declared pests. A large part of the role is travelling across the PHBG's operational area delivering equipment and instructing landholders in their use. The Equipment Officer will have good time management and administration skills keeping the equipment database up to date and liaising with landholders. The role is delivered 3 days a week and able to be delivered with flexible working arrangements for the right candidate. Event delivery may occur outside of normal working hours.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

● Administering the PHBG equipment database

● Managing logistics of equipment provision to landholders

● Coordinating and delivering equipment focused community events

● Assisting in the delivery of events and workshops, sometimes outside of normal working hours.

● Attending community events as a PHBG representative.

● Pick up / deliver PHBG equipment to landholders.

● Assist senior PHBG staff in the field.

● Undertake administrative tasks as required.

Key Selection Criteria

GENERAL

The following are considered basic prerequisites for the position.

● Australian residency or eligibility to legally work in Australia.

● High level of capacity for self-motivation, developed time management skills, and an ability to meet deadlines.

● Current 'C' class drivers licence and reliable vehicle.

ESSENTIAL

● Friendly, approachable and a good communicator with a 'team' attitude.

● Strong customer service focus, with the ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships.

● Good time management skills.

● Competent level of computer and word processing skills.

● Interest in local environmental, agricultural and/or biosecurity issues.

● Flexible, adaptable and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to work flexible hours as required.

● Physical fitness with the capacity to transport and demonstrate pest management equipment in different environments.

● Experience in driving 4x4 and towing trailers.

DESIRABLE

● Previous experience working in the land care sector and/or existing networks within natural resource management in the region,

● The ability to communicate positively with a broad range of people, including those from an agricultural or an environmental background,

● Able to undertake effective community engagement and share technical pest management information with a wide range of stakeholders, or the willingness to learn,

● Environmental or agricultural knowledge and experience,

● Public speaking and presentation experience; and

● Experience in the use of computer programs such as QGIS, CANVA, and/or GSUITE

Other requirements

We are looking for someone who meets the criteria below and is keen to work part time or 0.6 FTE. The salary package includes a base salary of $34 per hour dependent on experience and 12% superannuation.

Waroona location. Remote working arrangements (working from home) will be considered once the person is experienced in the role after a qualifying period. Flexible hours. May suit an applicant to spread the hours across 5 days to work school hours etc.

Laptop and Phone provided, and the use of organisational vehicle where available.

* Ability to obtain National Police Check.
* High level of capacity for self-motivation, developed time management skills, and an ability to meet deadlines.
