THE POSITION

The position will assist in the preparation and review of Council's external financial reports. The position will assist in the delivery of Councils Statutory financial reporting & year‐end Audit program, Council's Treasury and Tax management obligations and associated month end tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Undertake treasury functions including investments & loans.
* Report, review and reconcile AlburyCity's fixed assets register/subsidiary ledger against the corporate financial system and ensure all anomalies are identified and rectified.
* Assist with the project closure processes, including validation of Work In Progress (WIP) balances, asset rollouts and commencement of timely depreciation as per Accounting standards.
* Conduct cyclical balance sheet reconciliations to ensure anomalies are identified & rectified in a timely manner
* Complete month end accounting procedures.
* Conduct regular internal audits/samples
* Produce monthly Balance sheet and Income statement reports.
* Engage with business units and work collaboratively to ensure correct accounting treatments for events/transactions.
* Prepare BAS and GST returns.
* Process Inventory journals.
* Process Bank Guarantees within the corporate Financial Management Systems.
* Provision of financial accounting advice to customers.
* Assist Supervisor Financial Accountant with all year end audit tasks.
* Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor, which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
* Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
* Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

* Based on a 35 hour week, working a minimum of 28 hours per week, with actual days and times being to be negotiated with the supervisor.
* Additional hours up to 35 hours per week may be worked by agreement, and this will be paid at the ordinary rate of pay.
* This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
* This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform, however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity's Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
* This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role. There may be occasional visits to other work locations. The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, including manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment. A medical declaration will be required to be completed prior to commencement.
* This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
* This position is located at the AlburyCity Administration Building, 553 Kiewa Street, Albury.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or equivalent relevant qualification

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

* Class C Drivers licence.

EXPERIENCE

* Requires demonstrated accounting experience in a similar role

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

* High level experience in:
o Financial Accounting - including Treasury, Taxation, production of Financial Statements and year end Auditing processes.
o Strong analytical, planning and financial skills.
* Experience/skills in having a strong customer focus in providing and delivering financial management outcomes
* Experience/skills in developing and maintaining strong working relationships across organisations
* Microsoft office suite of products.
