About Us

Work where others holiday. Nestled beneath the iconic Nut on Tasmania's north-west coast, Stanley is a postcard-perfect fishing village surrounded by beaches, rich farmland, and a warm, welcoming community. Living here means enjoying a slower pace, world-class produce, and the simple pleasure of coastal life.

To make the move easier, we can offer furnished share-house accommodation overlooking the beach, available to rent at a subsidised rate, just a five-minute walk from the restaurant — giving you the chance to wake up by the ocean and walk to work.

Hursey Seafoods is a multi-award-winning, family-owned restaurant and a much-loved Stanley institution. Famous for our fresh local catch and relaxed, friendly atmosphere, our kitchen team takes pride in producing simple, exceptional flavours while supporting one another in a positive and inclusive environment.

We're now looking for a talented chef who is ready to step up — someone who wants to lead from the line, inspire their team, and bring fresh energy to our kitchen.

-----------------------------------

The Role

As Head Chef you will:

* Lead the kitchen team, working shoulder-to-shoulder during service
* Ensure consistency and quality of every dish
* Mentor junior chefs and set a positive, professional tone
* Oversee ordering, stock control, and cost management
* Be a hands-on leader, actively involved in both prep and service shifts
* Develop and execute seasonal menus that showcase the best of Tasmanian produce
-----------------------------------

About You

You might already be a Head Chef with 2+ years of experience — or a skilled Sous Chef (5+ years) looking for your first opportunity to step into leadership. Either way, you're eager to grow, love working in a collaborative environment, and thrive under the buzz of a busy service.

We're looking for someone who:

* Has strong financial acumen and experience in cost control & budgeting
* Communicates clearly and works well in a team
* Holds a Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or is willing to obtain)
* Is passionate about Tasmanian seafood and sharing local food stories
-----------------------------------

Why Join Hursey Seafoods?

* Step-Up Opportunity: Lead the kitchen without the corporate layers of an executive chef role
* Supportive Culture: Respectful, team-focused environment where your input counts
* Lifestyle Balance: Flexible rosters designed to suit life in Stanley
* Professional Growth: Opportunities to shape menus and contribute to a growing restaurant
-----------------------------------

Pay & Benefits

* Competitive hourly rate $37–40/hr (depending on experience)
* Penalty rates for weekends, and public holidays
* Furnished coastal accommodation available at subsidised rent
-----------------------------------

How to Apply

Send us your resume along with a short introduction telling us:

* Why you're ready to take on this Head Chef role
* Your proudest moment in the kitchen
* What excites you about life in Stanley

We look forward to hearing from you
