Primary objective
Oversee the design, development, and implementation of Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs for secondary
school students. This position collaborates with industry, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and schools to provide
accurate guidance and comprehensive support to stakeholders in a complex service environment. The role also supports the
Department of Education's (DET) RTO to ensure the delivery of quality VET programs in schools, including guidance and
assistance for school-based trainers and assessors.
Context statement
The Department of Education and Training oversees vocational programs across public and private Northern Territory (NT)
secondary schools including managing the distribution of VET funding and facilitating industry partnerships. Working
alongside schools, the position brokers relationships with RTOs, industry, and stakeholders to support the successful delivery
of VET in a range of contexts including embedded trainers, training hubs and public and private RTO training.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with schools, communities, industry, and other agencies to provide
guidance on a range of delivery and assessment models to support the effective delivery of VET programs in schools.
2. Assist schools and VET employees in meeting compliance requirements and setting up suitable programs, offering
specialist advice tailored to the specific context of each school and community.
3. Offer accurate, authoritative information and advice to NT schools, RTOs, industry, and other stakeholders on the
development and improvement of VET programs, and the creation of pathways for secondary students.
4. Ensure that schools and other relevant stakeholders have a comprehensive understanding of the impact of VET on the
Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training, particularly for Year 11 and 12 students.
1. Provide high-level advice to leadership, schools, communities, and RTOs on VET program development, implementation,
and ongoing improvement, and ensure reporting is in line with agreed provisions.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong interpersonal abilities with a proven capacity to establish and maintain effective networks and collaborative
relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
2. Proven experience in creating vocational education and training solutions to address complex service delivery challenges.
3. Demonstrated experience providing advice on policy, procedures, and performance related to the VET sector including
an understanding of the VET Quality Framework and Australian Skills Quality Authority.
1. Demonstrated ability to coordinate industry partnerships to provide post-school pathways.
2. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including understanding the needs of students from various cultural
backgrounds and those in remote and regional areas.
Desirable
1. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or a Diploma in Adult Education.
2. Experience in an RTO or TAFE.
Further information
This position may require overnight stays in remote communities and travelling in light aircraft and/or 4WDs. Applicant must
hold, or be able to obtain, a current NT Working with Children Clearance Notice and driver's licence. The successful
candidate will also need to meet ASQA Fit and Proper Persons standards.
