About the role 
As a Commis Chef at Stamford Grand Adelaide you will play an important part in delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests. Working closely with our experienced kitchen team, you will assist with food preparation, cooking, and presentation across a variety of sections. This role is a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, and develop your skills in a supportive and professional environment. 
The successful applicant will be responsible for: 
- Preparing meal ingredients as well as washing, peeling, chopping vegetables and fruits 
- Preparing basic salads and sauces as directed by the Executive Chef 
- Receive deliveries and verify that ordered items have been delivered and are of good quality 
- Take inventory of restaurant supplies and notify Executive Chef of low or depleted supplies 
- Discard all expired and spoiled food items stored in the stock rooms, refrigerators, and freezers 
- Perform cleaning duties and ensure workstations are properly sanitised 
- Plating and presenting meal items as per the Executive Chef’s instructions 
- Understand the need to oversee relevant costs, including labour, food and operational expenses 
- Be reliable and self-motivated with a strong work ethic 
- Uphold strict health, hygiene and safety standards 
- Plan and manage food quantities and plating requirements for the food operation 
About you 
- Qualifications in Commercial Cookery/Culinary Arts from a registered training provider 
- Proven hospitality hotel kitchen experience 
- Ability to lift, push and pull heavy objects up to 50lbs (23 kg), with bending and kneeling 
- Positive reading, writing and basic maths 
- Clear English communication and a positive demeanour 
- Proven ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment 
- Willingness to work collaboratively within a multicultural diverse team 
- Flexible to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays 
- Comprehensive knowledge of kitchen hygiene practices and WH&S; standards 
- Demonstrated experience working in a 4- or 5-star hotel (desirable) 
- Ability to work unrestricted in Australia – full working rights
