About the Position
We are excited to welcome a Child and Family Consultant to our Assessment Service Connect (ASC) team in Mackay! Work in collaboration with Child Safety Services, the Queensland Police Service, and Queensland Health—providing consultation, assessments, and advice regarding families referred for child protection concerns.
Help us achieve better outcomes for these children, enabling them to heal from trauma and live happier lives.
* Level 5 SCHCADS Award.
* Salary range: $100,784 - $105,350 + Superannuation.
* Full-time, Government funded position until 31 December 2027 with possible extension.
Key Responsibilities:
* Actively build and maintain strong working relationships with Child Safety as key referrers and partners in the ASC co-response.
* Respond as part of the ASC team, providing expert opinion and consultation on referrals, processes, and service connections.
* Actively engage referred families in the ASC co-response process, aligned with operational guidelines and Act for Kids policies and procedures.
* Conduct thorough, practice-informed assessments of each family's strengths and needs, using a child-focused, strengths-based approach.
* Maintain regular, collaborative communication with Child Safety Officers regarding progress on the Investigation and Assessment co-response.
About You
* Hold a relevant tertiary qualification (Allied Health, Social Work, Human Services) with professional registration (if required) and, a membership in a professional association (desirable).
* At least five (5) years' experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or have experienced abuse and neglect, or more than five years' experience working in similar roles.
* Demonstrated specialist skills in at least one of the following areas drug and alcohol, mental health, family and domestic violence, child development.
* Expertise in child development and assessing functioning and wellbeing of children and young people.
* Expertise in family functioning, parenting and attachment, including assessing family relationships and parenting capacity and functioning.
* Knowledge of Queensland child protection legislation and policy reforms.
Other Requirements
* Eligibility for a Working with Children Check or professional exemption.
* Current driver's licence.
* Legal ability to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required).
